The Battle for GÜDE: Bootstrapped Brand Founder Fights for Trademark Rights

Jon Richardson began  a modest pandemic-era venture inside a one-bedroom apartment not knowing that six years down the line, it would erupt into a high-stakes trademark war. Popularly known as the "Rosewater guy" or "The Skincare guy", his venture started with  GÜDE SKIN, which has since expanded into THE GÜDE LIFE encompassing skincare, scent, and gear. Jon has taken to social media with a lot of documentation to challenge a rival company's brand positioning and recent legal filings.

Launched in 2020 with no outside investors, loans, or handouts, the bootstrapped enterprise claims it has scaled to serve more than 260,000 customers worldwide over the past six years. However, that laudable effort is now facing a major roadblock.

According to Richardson, another entity, identified as GUD LIFE COMPANY LLC emerged using a name, branding, and messaging alleged to be confusingly similar to his already established startup.

Events escalated in August 2026, when the competing firm filed a federal trademark application for "GÜDE LIFE CO," listing a claimed first-use date of 2022.

Armed with a digital trail stretching back to their 2020 origins, he has published extensive receipts, ranging from domain records and original posts to brand language, launch dates, and historical timelines, to counter the 2022 claim.

Legal representation has been retained for the ongoing brand-protection battle, alongside a GoFundMe campaign seeking to raise $100,000 to cover legal fees. The situation has raised a broader perspective in dealing with trademark policies, and beyond the debacle, Richardson has issued a stark piece of advice to fellow entrepreneurs, to do well to preserve original files, domain histories, launch posts, invoices, and sales records to safeguard intellectual property against potential infringement.
