A Radical Voice in Beauty

Sharon Chuter was not simply a businesswoman—she was a force of disruption. In 2019, she launched UOMA Beauty, a brand that immediately set a new benchmark for inclusivity. Its debut lineup included 51 foundation shades, a bold statement at a time when “diversity” was more of a marketing word than a true industry practice.

With UOMA, Chuter gave voice and visibility to women who had long been ignored by mainstream beauty. She was unapologetic about reshaping the narrative and ensuring that beauty truly reflected every skin tone, every culture, and every story.

Beyond the Brand

Chuter’s impact went far beyond makeup products. She gained global recognition in 2020 with the launch of #PullUpOrShutUp, a viral campaign demanding that billion-dollar corporations disclose the number of Black employees in their leadership teams.

The movement put a spotlight on accountability and inspired conversations across industries about representation and equity.

In 2021, she went even further with Make It BLACK, an initiative designed to challenge society’s perception of the word “Black” while raising funds for Black women entrepreneurs. Partnering with major beauty brands, Chuter relaunched products in limited-edition black packaging, with proceeds fueling the Pull Up For Change Impact Fund.

Through these efforts, she proved that business could be more than profit—it could be activism, empowerment, and social transformation.

A Fierce and Fearless Journey

Though her life was tragically short, Sharon Chuter’s journey was marked by fearlessness.

She never waited for permission to speak, create, or demand change. She carried her Nigerian roots with pride and used her global platform to uplift others, ensuring Black women in particular had space in industries that had historically overlooked them.

A Lasting Legacy

Sharon Chuter leaves behind more than a beauty brand—she leaves a legacy of courage, inclusivity, and empowerment. Her story is a reminder that one woman’s vision can inspire millions and change an entire industry.

Her passing is a profound loss, but her work will continue to echo in boardrooms, campaigns, and beauty aisles around the world.

May her soul rest in peace.
