There are jerseys, and then there are statements. Haiti’s return to the FIFA World Cup comes 52 years after its last appearance and Haitian-Italian designer, Stella Jean made sure the world would look.
Her capsule collection, L’Haitiana, is the result. The three colors of Haiti’s football kit, redesigned into polo jerseys and T-shirt dresses. Intentionality was the theme. Each piece is colorful and hand-stitched , bearing the number 26 on the back a mark of rebirth, not nostalgia.
Jean has never used fashion as decoration. “It’s never too late to rise, to lift our heads and make the impossible visible,” she says.

Within 48 hours of her latest Instagram
post, the collection pulled over. The diaspora showed up. The fashion world took notice.
Haiti hasn’t just qualified for the World Cup. Haiti just won fashion.
