Meta Lays Off 8,000 workers with a 4am Mail

Meta has laid off 8000 employees

Reports claims that they were advised to work from home and by 4am the next morning they started getting their layoff mails

The instructions to work from home was across regions in the US and the UK. Some reports from Singapore said they got their layoff mails as early as 4am local time.

Before this major layoff, Meta’s Chief People Officer announced that 7,000 employees will be reassigned onto new AI focused divisions “AI Native” teams. This is to intensify Meta’s push toward adopting more AI investments that will lead to restructuring and shutting downs thousands of open roles and flattening management layers

Some now ex workers have taken to social media to share their reaction to getting their mails. From surprised, to anxious and relieved, we’ve seen it all play out

We have so many questions. Is this a trend? Just in April, reports that Oracle laid off close to 30,000 employees in a 6am mail sent the internet into a frenzy. Amazon confirmed 16,000 corporate job cuts in January as they pivot towards AI adoption. Are we witnessing an AI shift? Is this a financial status driven decision? Are the laid off staff properly compensated?

First Amazon, then Oracle, now Meta. Who’s next?
