Tyla Shuts Down Viral Jay-Z Rumors Ahead of New Album

Don't believe everything you read on the timeline, people.

South African global sensation Tyla has officially put an end to a massive wave of internet speculation, confirming that she has not signed with Jay-Z’s legendary entertainment agency, Roc Nation.

The Grammy-winning "Water" singer took to her Instagram Stories this week to clear the air after days of intense rumors had the entire music industry talking. With a brief and definitive statement, Tyla wrote, "I'm not signed to Roc Nation," instantly halting a viral news cycle that had already taken on a life of its own.

The frenzy began earlier this month when unverified reports began circulating online, claiming Tyla had turned down a contract renewal with her current label, Epic Records, in favor of a multi-million dollar partnership with Roc Nation.

The rumors quickly snowballed, with various outlets falsely reporting that the deal had been finalized and commemorated with a massive digital billboard takeover in New York City’s Times Square. Fans quickly flooded comment sections across TikTok, X, and Instagram, debating what a pairing with Roc Nation’s elite roster—which includes powerhouse artists like Rihanna and Ayra Starr—would mean for her career.

As it turns out, the internet jumped the gun. Tyla remains firmly with her longtime home at Epic Records and FAX Records, the team that has backed her historic run as the highest-charting African female soloist in Billboard 200 history.

The timing of the rumor couldn't have been more chaotic, as Tyla is currently in the final stretch of the rollout for her highly anticipated sophomore studio album, A*POP, which is officially scheduled to drop on July 24, 2026.

Following the runaway success of her self-titled debut album and her second consecutive Grammy win this past February, A*POP is widely regarded as one of the biggest pop releases of the summer. Tyla has described the upcoming 14-track project as a bold, intentional evolution of her sound, blending her signature South African Amapiano roots with global pop and dancehall textures.

The album's first two singles, "Chanel" and the Zara Larsson-assisted "She Did It Again," have already dominated airplay, setting a confident tone for what Tyla calls an "African, unapologetic, and fun" new era.
